Emergency Medical Services
As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) you are generally one of the first to arrive at the scene of accidents or other medical emergencies. It requires cool headedness in emergency situations, so that you can administer first aid treatment or life support care while transporting patients to medical facilities. An EMT’s work can truly make the difference between life and death and can be a rewarding career for those willing to take on the challenge.
At Otero College, EMS students are able to practice their hands-on skills in a state-of-the-art ambulance simulator. This program prepares the graduate to perform pre-hospital care including assessments, skills and transportation for clients suffering from traumatic injury or other medical emergencies. Both the Basic EMT and Advanced EMT levels are offered as certificates.

Care Forward Colorado provides zero-cost, short-term healthcare training at Otero College. In one year or less, you can learn the skills to become a certified nursing assistant, emergency services professional, or licensed clinical phlebotomist.
Starting in Spring 2023, students who enroll in eligible healthcare certificate programs will have tuition, fees, and materials covered as Care Forward Colorado funding allows. Apply to Otero, enroll in an eligible program, and have your bill paid.
Successful completion of the Otero emergency medical training programs’ requirements for graduation will also entitle the graduate to submit an application to the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for EMT Basic or EMT Advanced certification.
